PTA board meeting is tonight, 11/20, at 6:30 in the Library. Meetings are open to all. We will be looking back at the fall activities and looking forward to winter. Kids are welcome but there is no childcare.
Dear Grant CEA Family and Community Members,
November is here! We know, we can’t believe it either. Here’s a brief update on the PTA goings on in the next month or so.
Fall Campaign Wrap Up
Friends, your generosity is so appreciated. This community came together to raise over $10,000 For the Love of Grant to support core PTA functions throughout the year. Ms. Grote’s class had the greatest participation, followed by a three-way tie between Mr. Johnson, Ms. Rapkoch, and Ms. Carini’s classes. These four classes will each receive a popcorn party. In celebration of our community success, every student will receive a ceramic Monkeyshine medallion that was created by fellow students and local artist Jenifer Davis at the Fall Festival (thanks to Jenifer Davis Pottery).
We are still looking to fully fund our operating budget, and are grateful for continued support throughout the year. The campaign website will stay live at https://www.youcaring.com/ grantcenterfortheexpressivearts-964622, and cash or check donations are welcome at the PTA drop box in the office or at any community events throughout the year (just note “For the Love of Grant” or “PTA general donation”).
Thanks also to Odd Otter for a special fundraising evening of Kiddo Karaoke and to Metropolitan Market and Frighthouse Station for support during the Fall Festival to celebrate our success.
Upcoming PTA Board Meeting
Our next PTA Board meeting is Monday, November 20, at 6:30 pm in the Grant CEA Library. We are still actively seeking co-president and co-treasurer positions, and any and all voices are always welcome. Come help us do good things for our great community! Kiddos are welcome, but we have no formal childcare so they have to hang with us.
We will be celebrating all of our Grant CEA artists’ Reflections submissions at a Reception in the Loft on Tuesday 11/14 from 3:30 – 4:30. We will also be showing the film, dance, and music composition entries at this time. The artwork that will be moving on to the Tacoma City Council level will also be recognized during the reception. Help us celebrate the art that our Grant CEA students have created!
The 4 the Love of Art Auction (May 5, save the date!) is the main source of funding for the Arts Trust, and we need everyone’s help to make it successful. The auction committee is responsible for Procurement (getting awesome stuff!), Event Planning, and Classroom Projects. We will have our next meeting at Dana
Gleixner’s home on Wednesday 11/15 at 6:00. We’d love to have you join us. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for the address, or email GrantPTAAuction@comcast.net to see how else you can help.
Teacher Appreciation Lunch
Our Grant CEA teachers and staff deserve appreciation year-round, so this year we are celebrating them every month. In November, we are looking for 4th Grade Families to help with an appreciation lunch for all staff in the teacher’s lounge on 11/16. At minimum, we would like to provide soup lunches (target is 4 soups), bread or rolls, fresh fruit and veggies, and some treats. If you are a 4th Grade Family interested in contributing a soup (crock pots are perfect to keep them warm!), sides, or treats, please contact Becky Durbin (email@example.com) or Melora Shelton (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Remaining appreciation lunches will be organized and hosted by 3rd Grade (January), 2nd Grade (February), 1st Grade (March), and Kindergarten (April).
Holiday Gift Making
Our amazing annual Holiday Gift Making Workshop is on 11/17 from 5:00 to 8:00. This free family event is an opportunity for kids to make gifts for family and friends. Our HGMW team is planning 6 to 7 gift making stations and needs volunteers to help make it happen. Please contact Holly Richart (email@example.com) to help.
5th Grade will have concessions available (chili dog meal and treats) to support camp fundraising. If you are a 5th Grade parent who can help with concessions please email Miranda Pollitz (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The HGMW team is also planning for our third year of community outreach with a giftmaking station dedicated to our local YWCA. We also will have a donation station at HGMW to support our Grant Giving Tree (new, unwrapped gifts), Food Pantry (including toiletries), and Coat Closet (any new or gently used clothing, littles through adult sizing).
Come and celebrate kindness, community, and holiday fun at this free family event.
Grant Community Resources
Reminder, the Giving Tree, Food Pantry, and Coat Closet are community resources that are available to all folks in our community. Reach out to Lynn Ganahl (email@example.com, 253 571 5400, or in person) in the office with questions or needs, all communications are completely confidential.
We’re still trying to communicate through a combination of e-newsletters to everyone (like this), e-mails to PTA members (through the new State PTA software, look for email sent via or on behalf of PT-Avenue), the Grant CEA Community Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/grantcenter/), the Grant CEA PTA Website (http://grantceapta.weebly.com/) and occasional Kid Mail (paper sent home with students). We will use school district phone calls (aka, Robocalls), posters and fliers around the building, and bulletin boards in the main hallway. Keep your eyes peeled for news and updates.
We always welcome feedback in person, on Facebook, or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Everyone is welcome at our meetings, and we’d love to have you join us.
Thanks for being our community!

This year's auction is on May 5th, and not only will it be raising funding for the arts in education for every kid at Grant, but it will also be a celebration of the "Past, Present and Future" of Grant as we look back on the past 117 years in the old building(s) and look forward to our year "off-planet" as we spend time at Hunt (or "Grunt") as they replace our building with a brand new place that will be there to educate Grant CEA students for the next 30-50 years!
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
Our annual fall campaign is underway! You should kiddos should have brought packets home last week.
The fall campaign, For the Love of Grant, is the first of the three main fundraising missions of the Grant CEA PTA. This is the primary fundraiser for the nuts and bolts of traditional PTA activities, including family activities, student support services, teacher appreciation, and many more elements.
In response to community conversations, we have moved away from "selling stuff" and instead ask that families and friends support us through direct donations. We also use the fall campaign to build community by asking all children to respond to the questions "What I love about Grant" and, this year, "What is my favorite art piece at Grant". We have a goal of 100 percent participation for answering the questions (send back the forms, with or without a financial gift) and the classrooms with the highest participation will earn a popcorn parties.
This is bookends the For the Love of Art Auction (May 5 - save the date!) to fund to Arts Trust. It is also supplemented by efforts like Plant Sale and Garage Sale later in the year. PTA also stewards the 5th Grade Camp fundraising efforts. As always, please let us know if you have questions about fundraising, or anything else, at email@example.com.
Join us next Tuesday, October 3rd, at 6:45 pm for the first general PTA meeting of the year, "Grant 101". we will look ahead to events planned for the school year, and discuss how things will be impacted towards the end of the year as we prepare to move out for our year off site while the school is replaced. Childcare for kids age 5-12 is provided. We hope to see you there!
Welcome back! The heat and the smoke are clearing and fall will coming soon.
It's time to plan the events of the year for our kids, and we will be having a PTA planning meeting on Saturday, September 23rd from 2-5pm at Beth Lovelady's home. If you want to attend, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will send you the address and such. Join us!
